We are excited about the Waco Symphony Orchestra’s 2024-2025 season as we welcome Music Director Lawrence Loh! Since its founding in 1965, the Waco Symphony Council (WSC) has been dedicated to supporting and promoting the mission of the Waco Symphony Orchestra, now entering its 62nd season. We invite you and your friends to share in our enthusiasm by getting involved in WSC projects and volunteer opportunities. Below, you’ll find answers to a few common questions about WSC. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact one of the people listed below.
What does the Waco Symphony Council do?
They support, assist, and further the interest of the Waco Symphony Orchestra.
How does WSC do that?
Through fundraising efforts:
Provide financial resources to fund scholarships to Baylor music students who play as interns in the Waco Symphony.
Sponsor a WSO concert each year.
Endow the Waco Symphony Council Conductor’s Chair through the Waco Symphony Foundation.
Support the Waco Symphony Youth Orchestra’s two free concerts annually.
Annually each fall, WSC hosts the Children’s Concerts, providing exposure to an orchestral experience for approximately 5,000 area fourth and fifth graders.
Provide volunteers for many events such as the WSO Nutcracker Ballet and Nutcracker Market.
Plan and execute the Belles and Brass program and a fundraiser each year.
What are the benefits of joining the WSC?
As a member, you will receive invitations to Preview Parties (primarily Sunday brunches) at various members’ homes where you can mingle with fellow WSC members and hear an overview of the repertoire for the upcoming concert from our own Maestro Larry Loh.
Most importantly, you will have opportunities to form lasting friendships while playing an active role in fostering education, community involvement, and expanding music knowledge and appreciation.
What are the costs?
Several membership levels are available based on your desired level of giving ranging from $50 to $350.
