Volunteer Opportunities

The Symphony enjoys volunteerism from different groups that help to support the Symphony in various ways. You can volunteer for activities such as welcoming attendees to performances, ushering children’s school trip concerts, assisting in event planning and setup and more.

Hospitality

Preview Parties
Various dates and locations prior to each classical season concert (mostly Sunday brunches)

Several days before each WSO concert, the Council hosts an informal social in a private home at which we hear Maestro Larry Loh’s insights about the composers and the pieces to be performed. These also serve as our General Council Meetings. Help needed to organize, serve, bring food, and tidy-up after each event.

Patron Dinner
Thursday, February 20, 2025, 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Ridgewood Country Club

Held to show appreciation to our members who purchase season tickets to the WSO concerts at a Patron level or higher. Assistance is needed in planning and organizing this event.

Youth & Education Programs

Children’s Concerts
Tuesday, November 12, 2024, 9:15 A.M., 11:15 A.M., 1:00 P.M. – Waco Hall

Each year the Baylor Symphony Orchestra holds these concerts during the day at Waco Hall to provide orchestral music in an age-appropriate event for all area 4th & 5th graders. WSC volunteers organize and coordinate with the area schools whose students might not otherwise have an opportunity to hear a live symphony orchestra in a concert hall. Assistance is needed in greeting and ushering at the concert.

Nutcracker Volunteers
Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 7 P.M. and Sunday, December 15, 2024, at @ 2:00 P.M. – Waco Hall

WSC volunteers assist local student dancers as backstage volunteers, including providing directional assistance, simple help with dressing, and being a helpful chaperone. Others are needed to help set up and sell merchandise at the Nutcracker Store in the lobby of Waco Hall before the performances and during intermission (possibly afterwards if merchandise remains). We will also need assistance with set up, check-in, and line management at the Kingdom of Sweets post-ballet party on Sunday afternoon for one hour.

Belles and Brass
Various Dates for Meetings – Presentation at Waco Hall and Presentation Ball at Ridgewood Country Club on Saturday, April 5, 2025

Participating juniors from area high schools will be presented, and, afterwards, they will be celebrated at a Presentation Ball. Girls (Belles) enroll as sophomores and continue through their junior year. Boys (Brass) enroll and serve their junior year. Belles & Brass serve as concert greeters, experience a multi-course etiquette dinner, music education, and leadership skills training. These young people are sponsored by their parents, grandparents, or friends who are WSO season ticket holders at the Sustainer Level or higher. Volunteers are needed to assist with all the activities associated with this program.

Fundraising
